New Year readings for each sun sign and rising sign.
Excerpts from The Book of Lovers.
Let me explain. There are many planetary configurations that determines a person's personality, but the two most important are the position of the Sun and the position of the Moon on the day of birth. The Sun's position explains a person's character, and the Moon's position explains their emotional needs and predisposition. These two luminaries team up to incline a person to behave in a particular way.
The importance of the Sun/Moon combination was revealed by psychology's great Dr. Carl Jung in 1930. His research uncovered definite parallels and connections between the Sun/Moon configurations of married couples. The startling conclusion was that certain Sun/Moon aspects between birth dates and marriages were found to be three times higher than chance would predict.
The strongest connections were:
- The Moon in the same sign as another person's Sun sign;
- The Moon in compatibility with another person's Sun sign;
While I emphasize the various Sun and Moon combinations in this book, and give a description of the personalities represented by the Sun-Moon combinations for each Sun sign, I have also included a brief description of the Ascendant personality and a table for determining one's Ascendant or Rising sign. My reason for doing so is that, in Dr. Jung's findings, he went so far as to say that when the Moon was in the same sign as the other person's Ascendant, there was a greater possibility of marriage. Therefore, he assumed that the Ascendant was important to the psychological makeup of lovers.
And, after years of study I couldn't agree more. You will too when you apply it to long term relationships and marriages as you look around.
Rising Signs for Men
''Was I the first?"
Was he the first to make you feel this way, share your special secrets, meet the family, see you in that red bustier? Of course not. But while this man claims to be wild about honesty, he is far more crazed to hear how he has no predecessor and no equal. Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac and here you find a man who is all impulse, energy (unless he is hooked up to a ventilator), and raging enthusiasm for living. He is ambitious and in a hurry. If you want to poke along and smell the roses find yourself another rising sign. If you mosey out of bed, blow dryyour hair for more than ten minutes, and simply must have that first cup of coffee before you start your day you will not be able to sustain his interest. And you will have more to sustain than his interest...
"I'm good with money."
Regardless of his humble beginnings or his obvious charm upon meeting you, if you don't meet his standards of style he won't embark upon a serious relationship with you. He may live with you, promise you something more in the future, meet your family, yet he will be saving himself for Ms. Right. His idea of perfect woman may lie in the fact that his favorite movie stars are Grace Kelly, Gene Tierney, and Greer Garson. I didn't know who they were either until my Taurus friend clued me in. Barely out of his teens he'll see an old movie and get fixated on the 40s woman with the sterling silver hairbrush, white gloves and the "Oh, my gosh, my dance card is full" expression. While he'll be delightfully playful with his MTV look alike acquaintances he longs for something more. His entire life is a series of wistful desires for the finer things. He's saving his money for the house on the hill, dreaming of the girl who'll dance cheek to cheek at the ball with him in his tuxedo, her gloved hand draped across his shoulder. These flights of fancy are like blueprints for life with him no matter how meager his finances...
"Let's go to both parties tonight."
Gemini Rising men are world class travelers even if confined to their own neighborhoods. They are restless and active and have some marvelous characteristics. They have the rare quality of being able to throw themselves into work, and yet totally forget work and shift into play with 100 percent abandon. Sometimes, after a late night of partying the alarm is ringing about the time they come in from play. Not a problem for this guy, he will shower, shave and proceed to work with his usual enthusiasm. That could explain why he often looks peculiar inthe mornings. He is this way with women as well. And when "he's not near the one he loves, he loves the one he's near."
"I'd rather stay at home."
Cancer Rising men almost go into shock when they hear other men say that home is where you go when there's nowhere else to go. It's all they can do to leave and yet once they are out there in the business world they're some of the best money makers, and like shooting stars soar through the skies of competition at work. There is really no contradiction here about home and work, they become attached to their surroundings. Habits are their roots, strong as crabgrass. At home he won't replace his old recliner, he'll reupholster it. At work he'll use words like "expand," not relocate...
"Is this the top of the line?"
Leo Rising men come in two primary categories: the beautiful ones who don't have to roar to be heard, and a simple toss of the lion's mane will do (or the steady gaze of the hazel eyes); or the less magnificent ones who roar and bellow constantly striving for the limelight. These lesser Leo Risings don't have the animal magnetism and grace of the beautiful ones to charm their audience but this will not stop them in their pursuit of overwhelming everyone at any gathering. This is how you spot one. Another way to tell them apart from the other combinations is to ask them something about any thing. They'll have an answer, have been there, or know the person the subject was named for.
"Let's finish working first."
Virgo Rising looks for the women in his life much likethe horse breeder looks for a future champion. He wants good sturdy stock, nice teeth-not stained, good intellect, strong hands to hold the plow. He's a sturdy, meticulous man who actually enjoys work and worry. If you've got problems he won't hesitate to help if he judges you to be someone worth rescuing. He doesn't wear rose colored glasses and doesn't delude himself. He deals with the facts and loves to sort through the data. Being precise, practical, and of service is exciting for him...
"I try to get along with everybody."
Lively and intelligent with a well chosen word or two, this man can convince you of almost anything. He is successful at work, popular with everyone, and has a reputation for changing his mind and his girlfriends in the bat of an eyelash. Ifyou don't pay attention this may be confusing. Let me lay it out for you. Whatever he changes his mind about didn't involve a basic value. He can con anyone but when his emotions are involved he dwells on things like honor. Ashley Wilkes in Gone with the Wind is the epitome of a Libra Rising man. When he stands at the wood pile and Scarlet talks to him about running away she asks what there is to stop them. Ashley answers, "Nothing, except honor."
"I can do anything I put my mind to."
No point in mincing words, this man is strong willed. He's turbulent and volatile. He's also commanding and astute. He can excel in business where a take-control personality is needed. His intensity is shown in his line of work. He is attracted to danger and excels in investigative, political, religious, or medical careers. He's not timid in his choice of work. He can soar to the heights or fall to the depths depending on how involved he is and what his goals are. A sturdy friend, he's not the kind you classify as a buddy. He doesn't pal around and spends much time alone...
"I'm thinking about moving on."
Whatever his faults, there is no malice in this man. You might have to repeat this line over and over when you try and rebound from his cutting remarks and insensitive behavior toward you. He is difficult to understand, like the other dual Rising signs. Look at it from his point of view. He met someone new, or someone old, or maybe he just wanted to go hunting for the week. He never realized you'd take it so hard. He doesn't think in terms of commitment. Basically he is a man who likes friendship with women. He told you from the beginning that he just wanted to be friends...
"My mother and I are really close."
Don't let the fact that earlier I called this man stodgy deter you, because even he can't stop the eventual limelight his accomplish ments will bring. He is shy. Even when he runs for mayor. He'll make a few self depreciating jokes (it helps him psychologically to beat his detractors to the punch) and hee haw about his flaws. Fact is, he is very sensitive to criticism and self conscious in public situations. Why do they push themselves? Because they must show eve ryone they can do anything. Accomplishment is what they breathe for. Nothing else matters if they cannot prove to themselves...
"Let's be friends."
Cerebral, scientific, and flying his own time machine, the Aquarius Rising man does not have a great deal of time to dwell on emotion. His knack for understanding the connections between time and emotion allows for his not getting stuck in the moment and being able to move his mind to a point in the future where opportunities are better and brighter. Do you still wonder why he is so dispassionate when you cry over his forgetting to show for dinner? This cool and impersonal approach to all matters, including romance, leaves his acquaintances bewildered from time to time which is the way he wants it.
"I've got this feeling."
Esoteric subjects, healing crystals, Tarot cards may sound like psycho-babble to your average man, but to Pisces Rising this can sound like a possible way to get in touch with his feelings. His efforts to get in touch with himself often lead to acquaintanceships with mystics, psychics and the modern day therapists. He feels with such intensity that he needs people in his life who share the quest for more than the material or mundane. While he is a delightful companion he can be enigmatic and dual. The slippery fish swimming in two directions is his sign ruler for a reason. Pleasant, caring, and...
Rising Signs for Women
"I'm pretty independent."
Shining, sunny, bright, there's a teeny touch of arrogance about the Aries Rising woman. Sounds of "I am woman" thunder in her heart. She likes to trespass into traditional male-dominated tasks, from plant management to her own auto maintenance. She likes to win, to be first. She can tackle sports, mechanics and most left brain functions. What she can't do is relax and let things happen naturally. In romance her mating call is "I'm installing my lawn sprinklers Saturday, wanna help?" Her values are in her accomplishments, competence, mastery. She looks for a man who is impressed by this. Not all are...
"I'm good with money."
The steel magnolia of the Rising signs, the Taurus Rising woman has a strong backbone and an iron will. Possessed of an extraordinary amount of self control, shecan contain her emotions admirably and yield to a man's apparent domination. Here's one ascendant that's happy to let her man beat his chest. She'll let you be your eccentric self, notice the pretty passing ladies, and listen enchantedly to all your stories of bygone days. But while she may seem to know no bounds in her quiet adoration of you, she does in deed have her limits. Push her too far and she'll dig in her heels, create a cloud of ...
"I'm busy tonight."
The Gemini Rising woman is still delightfully part child. She jabbers, she jiggles, she jogs. She doesn't sit still for long stretches unless, of course, she's talking on the phone. Entertaining, she's often the best of hostesses, throwing parties extraordinaire. Her enthusiasm is contagious and her charm offsets the harsh feelings over her flirtatious eye. A possessive man will simply be driven nuts by her restless nature. The best of companions, she has a host of friends. She was born for fun and adventure. She's witty and can keep you up all night talking...
"I'm close to my family."
This is the woman of principles, the mistress of change. Looking for Mr. Right is almost an obsession and she'll travel to China to be with him. She is nearly rooted to her home base, however, so he can expect to end right back in the midwest where it all began with daddy and mum. Nearly crazed for decorating and remodeling, she turns her home or apartment into a showplace. Since she attracts men of money, her apartment may be at the Plaza where she'll drag in pumpkins and fix her own turkey for her honey on Thanksgiving. She has one of the strongest nesting instincts of the Rising...
"I love jewelry."
A mane of hair glistening in the sunlight, a sunny smile, and an abundance of baubles and jewels are part of the aura of Leo Rising, the star of the Rising signs. If she sounds spoiled, she is. Attention comes to her naturally, and she inspires and leads as if by birthright. She's not a standard model, but a luxury one. Men who need to dominate or manipulate had better steer clear. She has only icy contempt for such attempts at control. She requires equal billing in her relationships. She's capable in many fields but will always manage to perform even the most mundane chores in some sort of creative, dramatic fashion. She prides herself on being a breed apart. For all her drama and...
"I need a routine."
Here is the woman who puts you back in touch with the earth. Her values lie in work and nature. She writes Haiku, reads Prevention, rides bicycles, and reminds you you don't do too many things quite right. Curious, delving, asking for perfection, she has a wonderful flaw: she idealizes her mate. Lucky for you, even though you mess up her kitchen, botch the roofing and hum off key, she thinks you're a wonderful human being. She won't commit to "you're adorable" (only children are), she won't admire your buns, but she'll appreciate that you work out. She has no intention of fawning over you, but she'll take great care in watching your cholesterol count, typing your exam papers and knitting funny ...
"I'm not afraid of relationships."
Dimpled and delightful, she comes across pliant and compromising. She may be unsure, even indecisive. She'll call on you, her "friend," "daddy," "squizzle toes," to help her through the week's crisis. She's unable to manage by herself. Whoa! Get a grip on yourself, fella. Isn't she running her own business? Isn't she the doctoral candidate? This is part of her seduction. It's wonderful to play the game, but never mistake her helplessness for anything less than her carefully calculated plan to ...
''Where there's a will, there's a way."
Sensuous, alluring, mysterious, she is the predator of the Zodiac. She's not afraid of life or death, and therefore the most exotic man in the room won't phase her. She'll go after what she wants from life with the strategy of a general, the daring of a skydiver. If, upon meeting her, she doesn't lock eyes with you, chances are that you, even at your most enticing best, won't get to first base. She's the steam from fire and ice, the allure of musk, the sexual chemist. She has the power to take you to the depths of despair and send you soaring back to ecstacy. She can read your mind, leave you in a sexual stupor...
"I need a lot of Freedom."
It's not that she forgot her Girl Scout oath about being clean and tidy and good, but she really won't have time for a lot of the wifey things. Scattered energies and her enthusiasm for life override her desire to bake you carrot cake or start the war on dust balls. Here is the woman of enthusiasm, the bubbles in the champagne of life. If I had to pick the most outstanding characteristic of this Rising sign I would say it is her love of living live to the fullest. Naturally with this being her priority, she may have episodes of adventure that get her in some trouble, likeforgetting to come back from her two week vacation, hiding her new sale dresses under dry deaning bags ("I stayed on my budget, but...
"I like to set goals."
Setting goals, writing lists, stocking the pantry, but still asking her mom go to the mall to help her pick out clothes, even though she's already in her thirties. She's the woman of substance. Anxiety ridden, no stranger to the night crazies, she's fearful and timid un derneath the layers of control. She loves Woody Allen movies be cause he voices her fears. She's afraid to make the wrong choice, to love the wrong man, to present a paper with a dangling participle. Yet despite this, she exudes supreme confidence. Understanding this dichotomy allows you to proceed into the sacred territory of...
"I'm a bit of a visionary."
She doesn't pay attention, yet she notices everything. Paradoxical, she never sways from loyalty, humanitarian ideals, and her basic good nature. You can be poor in material things, but the man of her dreams must be rich in talent, ideas, and achievements. Detached romantically she can forget your anniversary, what you take in your coffee, but she'll never doubt you or ask you to compromise your beliefs. She's a banker in love, tallying your intellectual assets and good breeding against your liabilities. Feminine wiles and fits of passion are foreign to her. If she heads off for an exotic...
"I have ESP."
Here's a woman who wants to be loved, protected and cared for. Eternally feminine and devastatingly appealing, she's the hope of spring, the romance of summer and the beauty of fall. She may not make it all the way until winter, however, because she doesn't bear up under the strain of reality very well. She can and will endure many hardships, heartbreaks, and crises, but they'll take their toll. She believes in ideals and dreams, and dreams can and do shatter in the face of reality. She'll stand by you when you lose your job or your car, but not when you lose your self respect. The enormity of her faith in you is what you find so enduring in the beginning and so crushing in the end...
